. . . the next generation

Many at Caroline Church have attended or sent a son to Deerfoot Lodge in Speculator New York. Deerfoot is a wonderful place to create or build a foundation for a boy's Christian beliefs and values. Check out their site at www.deerfoot.org. The most recent lucky young men to experience Deerfoot were Ryan Haring and Andrew Visconti.

Below are some photos taken by Chris Haring (on drop-off and pick-up days) and Ryan Haring (during their stay). Click on any of the thumbnail images to get a full size view of the photos.

Some of the Caroline Church/Deerfoot Lodge alumni include Eric Mis, Kevin Lockerbie, Chris Haring, Ryan Haring, Andrew Visconti. . . Jon Busko with Three Village locals Chris Redder and Adam Kenney on the Island, 1998
Arrival at Deerfoot on July 10, 2004. The "pig rock" is the landmark on Rt. 30 to signal the nearby entry road to Deerfoot.
The camp has not changed much over the years, much to the approval of old and new campers. The scenery remains spectacular.
Ryan and Andrew check out the waterfront and boating options . . .
a walk to Pioneer Point before sign-in finds some cabins, campfire remains and other items of interest
The boys check out the tetherball courts . . .
and let's not forget the essentials. The boys find "The Waldorf." The rumor of no indoor plumbing is false--it's just not in the cabins!
A view of Indian Island from the point
OK Dad, we have our bunks. You can go home now!
Some photos taken by Ryan Haring during the two week session
Some scenes around the campfire at the Point, with Chief Josh Haggan (with hat) at right.
At the end of the first week, the cabin went on an overnight to climb Snowy Mountain, one of the highest peaks in the Adirondack Mountains (3,899 feet). A several mile hike in to a base camp to drop gear, then the climb. The boys described the climb as "really hard, but awesome." Views from the top and from inside the fire tower, with Indian Lake visible in some.
back at camp there was time for music and relaxation (not much) . . . Chief Ben Meeder provides the guitar
The rifle range became the favorite activity, along with an occasional game of trench dodgeball . . .
During the second week, the boys went on another overnight--this time to climb Pharaoh Mountain. An easier climb which the boys enjoyed more. Ryan must have wanted to use up the second camera and got some shots from the mountain top and trail.
The lean-to provided shelter, which was missing on the first hike (and it rained that night!)
. . . all good things must come to an end
On pick-up day, Mom, Dad (and Chip) arrive early and wait while the campers' breakfast comes to end.
Thanks for bringing Chip up Dad. But did you bring the checkbook too? I'd like to stay another two weeks. . .
Before leaving, all campers gather for the "circle of friendship" to pray, sing a few songs, hear final inspirational words from Chief Chuck ("all things are possible with the help of the Lord") and and say their final farewells--until next summer.
